RALPH CAS­TRO TO BE HON­ORED IN CAL­I­FOR­NIA

On March 18, 2017, Ralph Cas­tro — founder of Shaolin kenpo karate and Black %HOW·V 1988 Co-In­struc­tor of the Year — will re­ceive a life­time achieve­ment award from the Mar­tial Arts His­tory Mu­seum at a cer­e­mony in Daly City, Cal­i­for­nia. The event will be open to the public.

Cas­tro has a long his­tory in the mar­tial arts. He was born in 1931 in Honolulu. Af­ter serv­ing in the mil­i­tary dur­ing the Korean War, he learned kenpo from the leg­endary Wil­liam K.S. Chow. Years later, Cas­tro re­lo­cated to the main­land, and with en­cour­age­ment and sup­port from his friend and fel­low Hawai­ian Ed Parker, he RSHQHG WKH ÀUVW NHQSR NDUDWH VFKRRO LQ North­ern Cal­i­for­nia in 1958.
