Blueberry Splash registration open

Event Sept. 1

-

PLYMOUTH — Get ready swimmers, the Blueberry Splash will make its fourth lap around Myers Lake during the 2019 Marshall County Blueberry Festival. This is the second year for the event.

The swim takes place on Sunday, Sept. 1. Registration is that day, 8:30 to 9 a.m. The swim begins at 10 a.m. and will last for an hour.

Those who registered by Aug. 15 were guaranteed a T-shirt. Day-of-event registration is $40, and does not guarantee a shirt.

Parking is located at the finish line, 14811 12th Road. Participants will be boated to the starting line so swimmers can get familiar with the course.

The race is open to anyone above the age of 11 and participants are welcome to wear flotation devices. There will be no age groups. Prizes will be award to the top three male and female swimmers. The participants will have an hour to finish the race, which will have a land start and finish for everyone involved.

The event will emphasize safety as the course consists of deep, open water. Wendy Holloway said she has lined up a number of volunteers to lifeguard and spot along the course. Joining the volunteers, the Indiana State Police Diving Team will act as an extra precaution. Racers will participate in a safety meeting 15 minutes prior to the event.

The Blueberry Splash is open to the public and people are encouraged to get out there and try something new. Participants do not need prior triathlon experience or to be an expert swimmer. However, the course will require good physical condition.
