Methuen teen arrested in shooting

A teenager has been arrested in connection with the shooting of another juvenile Saturday afternoon in Methuen.

Methuen police Chief Joseph Solomon said the 17-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released because of his age, was one of three juveniles who “were handling a gun” at a home on Annis Street at 4:30 p.m. Saturday when a 16-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder.

Solomon said the accuser’s injury is serious, but not life-threatenin­g.

The 17-year-old was arrested and allegedly assaulted two police officers during his booking. He is being held on $5,000 cash bail.

He has been charged with possession of a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition, dischargin­g a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and assault and battery on a police officer.

Police said they did not immediatel­y locate the firearm.
