Lynn clerk sends would-be robbers reeling
Two would-be robbers left a convenience store with less than they brought in, thanks to a plucky clerk in Lynn who fought off the pair, and snagged one of their masks during the melee, cops said.
The masked and armed duo stormed the D & M Mart store on Broad Street about 8:19 p.m. Friday, in an attack that was captured on video and shared by Lynn police on Facebook.
One suspect ran behind the counter, but the clerk was ready. Grasping the thug’s hooded sweatshirt like a hockey jersey, he held the man stiff-armed and succeeded in fending him off, until the crook’s accomplice used the butt end of a gun and smashed it over the clerk’s head twice. In the tangle of fists and feet, the smaller clerk went down to the floor, but kept kicking and fighting.
While the man with the gun tried to hold him down, his partner in crime tried to unsling and open a backpack, but he took too long.
The clerk fought back to his feet, and charged the man with the backpack.
That punk managed to get in one more punch on the clerk — then realized that two thugs with a gun were overmatched by one determined shopkeeper. The man with the pistol tried to save his pride by getting in an overhanded strike as he left, but the clerk easily blocked it and the cowardly pair fled into the night.
