Sharing and Setting Limits

Cabin Living - - Good Design - CBC

Once you’ve populated your Pinterest boards or Houzz ideabooks, share them with your designer or architect. They will be a wonderful jumping-off point for creating the perfect house for you.

Beware: Both Pinterest and Houzz present heaping helpings of eye candy, which can be a blessing or a curse. Users can easily spend hours moving from photo to photo, board to board. You might want to intentionally limit the time you spend on the site, or decide to stop looking at photos of a certain item—fireplaces, for instance—after you’ve chosen that specific item to avoid endless second-guessing.

Although it’s tempting to feel like the sky’s the limit online, Sterchi recommends a dose of reality. “First determine what your needs are, how the structure will look and feel and what you want to invest.”
