GCHS band to travel to Wash­ing­ton D.C. for Na­tional Memo­rial Day Pa­rade

The Gor­don Cen­tral High School Band, un­der the di­rec­tion of Neal Craw­ford, is head­ing to Wash­ing­ton D. C. for the Na­tional Memo­rial Day Pa­rade, which is sched­uled for Mon­day, May 30 at 2 p.m.

The band leaves on Fri­day, May 27 and upon ar­rival in D. C., will take a tour of His­toric Wash­ing­ton D.C., in­clud­ing Lafayette Square for a photo op­por­tu­nity of the White House. The band will get to at­tend the of­fi­cial Evening Pa­rade at the Marine Bar­racks fea­tur­ing “The Pres­i­dent’s Own” United States Marine Band that night.

Through­out the week­end, the band will get to en­joy sight­see­ing trips to the United States Holo­caust Memo­rial Mu­seum; the Ford’s The­atre where Abra­ham Lin­coln was shot; the Na­tional Ar­chives Building, which is home to the Dec­la­ra­tion of In­de­pen­dence and the Con­sti­tu­tion of the United States; the Viet­nam and Na­tional World War II Memo­ri­als; the 9/ 11 Pen­tagon Memo­rial; Ar­ling­ton Na­tional Ceme­tery to see the Chang­ing of the Guards cer­e­mony at the Tomb of the Un­known Sol­dier and at­tend the of­fi­cial Na­tional Memo­rial Day con­cert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capi­tol, fea­tur­ing the Na­tional Sym­phony Orches­tra which will be broad­cast live on PBS.

The Na­tional Memo­rial Day Pa­rade on Mon­day will be tele­vised on the Reelz channel on ca­ble or Dish, the Amer­i­can Forces Net­work and on www. mil­i­tary.com.

The band will re­turn from their trip on Tues­day, May 31.
