GCHS band to travel to Washington D.C. for National Memorial Day Parade
The Gordon Central High School Band, under the direction of Neal Crawford, is heading to Washington D. C. for the National Memorial Day Parade, which is scheduled for Monday, May 30 at 2 p.m.
The band leaves on Friday, May 27 and upon arrival in D. C., will take a tour of Historic Washington D.C., including Lafayette Square for a photo opportunity of the White House. The band will get to attend the official Evening Parade at the Marine Barracks featuring “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band that night.
Throughout the weekend, the band will get to enjoy sightseeing trips to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; the Ford’s Theatre where Abraham Lincoln was shot; the National Archives Building, which is home to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States; the Vietnam and National World War II Memorials; the 9/ 11 Pentagon Memorial; Arlington National Cemetery to see the Changing of the Guards ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and attend the official National Memorial Day concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, featuring the National Symphony Orchestra which will be broadcast live on PBS.
The National Memorial Day Parade on Monday will be televised on the Reelz channel on cable or Dish, the American Forces Network and on www. military.com.
The band will return from their trip on Tuesday, May 31.
