Fan­tas­tic 4-H'er! Nom­i­nate your­self to be fea­tured on the Ge­or­gia 4-H home­page as a Fan­tas­tic 4-H’er! Once it is sub­mit­ted, the ap­pli­ca­tion is kept on file and every 4-H’er that sub­mits one will be fea­tured. This op­por­tu­nity is great to boost your port­fo­lio, and also share with oth­ers about your awe­some 4-H projects.

Week of May 22

Ap­pli­ca­tions for Clovers & Com­pany, the Ge­or­gia 4-H per­form­ing arts group, must be turned in by May 27. Au­di­tions for the group, which is com­posed of more than 50 4-H singers, dancers, in­stru­men­tal­ists and pro­duc­tion crew mem­bers from across the state, will be held on June 12 or 13 at Rock Ea­gle 4-H Cen­ter.

Sub­mis­sions for the 4-H Pho­tog­ra­phy Con­test must be sub­mit­ted by May 27. This con­test al­lows 4-H’ers of all ages an op­por­tu­nity to par­tic­i­pate. Cat­e­gories in­clude Agri­cul­ture, 4-H Youth, 4H Adult, 4-H Ser­vice and Gen­eral Pho­tog­ra­phy. The top ten pho­tos in each divi­sion will ad­vance to com­pete for prize money and rib­bons at the Ge­or­gia Na­tional Fair; the top 20 pho­tos from each divi­sion will be dis­played at the an­nual State 4-H Congress.

Ge­or­gia 4-H’ers are in­vited to par­tic­i­pate in the 4-H June Dairy Month poster con­test; sub­mis­sions must be turned in by May 27. The theme of this year’s con­test is “Get More with Milk” and is spon­sored by the South­east­ern United Dairy In­dus­try As­so­ci­a­tion, Inc.

Week of May 29

Se­nior Camp will be held May 30-June 3 at Rock Ea­gle 4-H Cen­ter in Ea­ton­ton for 9th-12th grade stu­dents. The dead- line for ap­ply­ing for camp schol­ar­ships has passed but schol­ar­ships will con­tinue to be con­sid­ered on a rolling ba­sis.

Week of June 5

Clover­leaf Camp will be held June 6-10 at Rock Ea­gle 4-H Cen­ter in Ea­ton­ton for nine year olds through sixth grade stu­dents. The dead­line for ap­ply­ing for camp schol­ar­ships has passed but schol­ar­ships will con­tinue to be con­sid­ered on a rolling ba­sis.

Wilder­ness Chal­lenge Camp will be held June 6-10 at Wah­sega 4-H Cen­ter in Dahlonega for stu­dents age 12 through eighth grade. The dead­line for ap­ply­ing for camp schol­ar­ships has passed but schol­ar­ships will con­tinue to be con­sid­ered on a rolling ba­sis.

Week of June 12

Se­nior Ex­treme Camp will be held June1317 at Rock Ea­gle 4-H Cen­ter in Ea­ton­ton for 9th-12th grade stu­dents. The dead- line for ap­ply­ing for camp schol­ar­ships has passed but schol­ar­ships will con­tinue to be con­sid­ered on a rolling ba­sis.

4-H Mu­sic Ed­u­ca­tion Mat­ters Sum­mit. Want to make some mu­sic? Ge­or­gia fac­ulty mem­bers and Ge­or­gia 4-H and vol­un­teers will lead ap­prox­i­mately 100 4-H youth and adults from across the coun­try in three-day sum­mit ex­pe­ri­ence. Youth par­tic­i­pants will work with 4-H staff, vol­un­teers, and spe­cial guests who will pro­vide in­struc­tion and men­tor­ing on a va­ri­ety of top­ics. Par­tic­i­pants will be trained on a set of core com­pe­ten­cies (tools of the trade, team­work, mu­sic busi­ness, ba­sics, song­writ­ing) as well as re­ceive spe­cial­ized in­struc­tion in their ar­eas of in­ter­est (vo­cal, in­stru­men­tal, dance, and mu­sic pro­duc­tion). Week of July 24

Ge­or­gia 4-H Pantry PrideRecipeCon­test. Plans are un­der­way for our third an­nual 4-H Pantry Pride Recipe Con­test in part­ner­ship with the Ge­or­gia Food Bank As­so­ci­a­tion, the Arby’s Foun­da­tion and the Ge­or­gia Na­tional Fair. This con­test is to chal­lenge 4-H’ers to think cre­atively about food and cook­ing by de­vel­op­ing recipes us­ing in­gre­di­ents com­monly found in Ge­or­gia Food Banks. Any­one 4th-12th grade can sub­mit a recipe. All recipes must be sub­mit­ted to Gor­don County 4-H by July 29. All en­trants will re­ceive a prize and a cer­tifi­cate and will have their recipes in­cluded in a dig­i­tal cook­book. The top 16 high school 4-H’ers will be in­vited to the state con­test held at the Ge­or­gia Na­tional Fair in Perry on Oc­to­ber 9. Week of July 31

Ge­or­gia 4-H Wa­ter­melon Grow­ing Con­test. The Ge­or­gia Fruit and Veg­etable Grow­ers As­so­ci­a­tion, along with the Ge­or­gia Wa­ter­melon As­so­ci­a­tion, are spon­sor­ing this year’s 4-H Wa­ter­melon Grow­ing Con­test. The state win­ner with the heav­i­est wa­ter­melon will re­ceive $100. The se­cond and third place win­ners will re­ceive $50 and $25, re­spec­tively. The wa­ter­melon must be weighed by the 4-H of­fice by Au­gust 5. Please see this link for more de­tails.
