Car Show at Tom B. David Airport
Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Preregistration is $15; at the gate, $20. All proceeds will sponsor Redeemed Youth Group for Collide 2016. 50/50 drawing, trophies, door prizes, food, music and more! 50/50 tickets $1 each or 6 for $5. For more information, call 706-263-7033.
The 7th annual Fairmount United Memorial Day Festival and 5-k Run
Monday, May 30 at Tate Park in Fairmount. Registration for the 5-k begins at 8 a.m. and the run starts at Tate Park at 9 a.m. Awards will be given for each age group male and female along with Overall Winners, Master and Grand Master winners. This is part of the Run and See Georgia Grand Prix series.
The Classic American Ride Club will be hosting the Antique Car Show. Car registration is from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $20 per car. Car Show winners will be announced at 1:30 p.m.
The Memorial Day Festival begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. with music, food and craft vendors. For children, there will be tractor rides, log roll, rock climbing, inflatables, a petting zoo and much more. Cost per child is $10 for a day pass. No family will pay more than $40 for larger families.
Live professional wrestling will also be on site, ongoing all day.
At 2 p.m., WWII veteran Alton Cadenhead will deliver a moving salute to veterans.
Memorial Day Bluegrass Festival
Monday, May 30 at the Oostanaula Community Center located at 1595 Oostanaula Bend Road in Calhoun. Gate admission is $5. A light breakfast will be served starting at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. with an entrée, vegetables, dessert and drink for $6. A raffle for a Mossberg Model 500 12 gauge pump shotgun will be held at 6 p.m. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Door prizes and cakewalk will also be held throughout the event. Bands start playing at 11 a.m. American Legion Paul Gwin Post # 47 Memorial Day Ceremony The American Legion Paul Gwin Post #47, located on West Line Street in Calhoun, will be holding a special Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30 beginning at 11 a.m. Commander Bill Dempsey will address attendees and perform a wreath ceremony and a flag retiring ceremony. Afterwards, hamburgers, hotdogs and sides will be served.
