Gordon native embarks on journey to honor this nation’s heroes

With Memorial Day right around the corner, Gordon County native Dustin Thomas has chosen to embark on a unique, enriching journey in order to honor the nation’s heroes and shed light on the sacrifices that have been made to ensure our safety.

Thomas, a Gordon Central alumni and current student at Abraham-Baldwin Agricultural College, is in the midst of a cross- country relay that involves biking and walking from New York to Texas to fulfill the mission of an organization called Carry the Load.

Carry the Load is a nonprofit that seeks to properly acknowledge the heroics of military members and veterans, law enforcement personnel, firefighters and first responders.

“Working with Carry the Load has been one of the best experiences of my life,” Thomas said. “It is really such a great group of people, and above all else, it is an honor to work with these heroes and hear their stories.”

Carry the Load was
