Unbelievable Journeys: Meadowdale Homecoming this Sunday to honor retiring senior pastor
As the longest tenured pastor of a Southern Baptist church in Gordon County, after almost 39 years, Steven Pearson is stepping down as senior pastor of Meadowdale Baptist Church. He gave the church an 18-month notice, which was a blessing, especially to the Pastor Search Committee. But behind the scenes, God had another plan in action. The new pastor was gaining insurmountable months of experience on staff at Woodstock City Church in Woodstock, Ga. The congregation was elated once they learned that Jeremy Kirby was the final candidate being presented to replace their beloved pastor, Pearson.
Kirby is the husband of Bekah Kirby and the son of Greg and Sherry Kirby. A graduate of Gordon Central High School, Kirby graduated from Shorter College in Rome prior to attending Luther Rice Seminary earning the degree of Master Of Arts.
“We are thrilled to have Jeremy join our staff as senior pastor and look forward to all God will accomplish at Meadowdale through His man,” says Rodney Babb, chairman of the Deacons and Pastor Search Committee.
As with any church, Meadowdale has seen its share of changes but one thing that’s been consistent is Steven Pearson. Since March of 1979, Pearson has accomplished so many things in the name of Jesus that most pastors never even dream of. Not only organizing mission trips to Africa, India, the Philippines and other countries around the world, Pearson has trained close to a hundred missionaries from Meadowdale including Kirby, who accompanied him to Africa on two occasions. Thousands of souls will welcome Pearson into Heaven due to his dedication on mission fields around the world.
While Kirby has already began his duties as senior pastor, Pearson agreed to fill the pulpit until his last Sunday, which is the church’s Homecoming Sunday on Oct. 1. It would be an honor and thrill for everyone who has ever known Pearson to join the congregation on this Sunday.
“We thank Steven and Sarah for all their years of love and service and have no doubt God has great plans for Meadowdale going forward,” says Babb. “We invite everyone to visit us to be a part of the excitement and blessings that are to come! We don’t care what you wear, only that you’re there!”
