CHS se­nior Palaz­zolo se­lected to serve on State Su­per­in­ten­dent’s Stu­dent Ad­vi­sory Coun­cil

Ju­lia Palaz­zolo, a se­nior at Cal­houn High School has been se­lected to serve on State School Su­per­in­ten­dent Richard Woods’ Stu­dent Ad­vi­sory Coun­cil.

The coun­cil will meet over the school year to pro­vide Woods with feed­back and a stu­dent per­spec­tive on a va­ri­ety of is­sues fac­ing stu­dents to­day. They will serve as the su­per­in­ten­dent’s am­bas­sadors to their re­spec­tive schools and take part in ser­vice projects.

“Ev­ery year, it is so valu­able to hear di­rectly from stu­dents through my Stu­dent Ad­vi­sory Coun­cil,” Woods said. “In the past, we have made di­rect changes based on stu­dent feed­back, and I look for­ward to work­ing with these 142 stu­dents who I know will make an im­pact.”

Palaz­zolo was se­lected as one of the 142 stu­dents out of 1500 nominations state wide. Mem­bers were cho­sen based on the strength of their an­swers to es­say ques­tions that fo­cused on their ideas for public ed­u­ca­tion and their com­mu­nity ser­vice ex­pe­ri­ence. She is the daugh­ter of Mar­cus and Jackie Palaz­zolo and has a younger sis­ter, Jenna. She has been class trea­surer since her fresh­man year and is in­volved with stu­dent gov­ern­ment. A var­sity foot­ball and com­pe­ti­tion cheer­leader since ninth grade, she was a home­com­ing court rep­re­sen­ta­tive for the ju­nior class and is presently a mem­ber of the CHS Home­com­ing Court. Palaz­zolo was pre­sented with the Cal­houn High School Out­stand­ing Stu­dent Award for Special Achieve­ment at the school’s Honors Award Pro­gram, where she also was pre­sented with an Aca­demic Let­ter, Dis­tin­guished Aca­demic Achieve­ment Award, Hugh O’Brien Youth Lead­er­ship Sem­i­nar Ap­point­ment, Most Out­stand­ing Stu­dent Honors Award for Span­ish 2 and was named the Most Out­stand­ing Stu­dent in Ac­cel­er­ated Ge­om­e­try. She also re­ceived the High School Cheer­lead­ing Aca­demic Award, the Pres­by­te­rian Col­lege Fel­lows Award, UGA Cer­tifi­cate of Merit and the Pres­i­dent’s Stu­dent Ser­vice Chal­lenge Award. She is a mem­ber of the CHS Na­tional Honor So­ci­ety and Na­tional Beta Club; an ac­tive mem­ber of the CHS In­ter­act Club and was re­cently se­lected to the Gor­don County Cham­ber of Com­merce Youth Lead­er­ship Class.

“Ju­lia will rep­re­sent CHS and our com­mu­nity very well on the State Stu­dent Ad­vi­sory Coun­cil. We are ex­tremely proud of her and all of her ac­com­plish­ments,” said Peter Coombe, prin­ci­pal of Cal­houn High School.
