Calhoun opens new season at Aquatic Center with boys’ victory

The Calhoun Swim Team hosted Blessed Trinity and Rome High for their season opener at the Calhoun Aquatic Center, and the boys’ team came away with a big win.

The Jackets finished with 102 total points ahead of Blessed Trinity Rome (58).

The Calhoun girls finished in third with 56 points behind Blessed Trinity (120) and Rome (64).

First-place finishes and GHSA qualifying times for Calhoun included Allie Workman in the 200-yard freestyle (80) and and 100-yard butterfly, John Carroll in the 100-yard butterfly, Bailey Mitchum in the 500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Carroll, Jeremiah Petty, Bo Dyar and Cal Parker.

Also scoring points for Calhoun was Matthew Monforte, Brody Bushong, Marke Hutzler, Dawson Kerns, Joshua Tolson, Reece Duke, Abigale Reid, Vivianne Funes, Emily Driscoll, Emilee Watson, Callie Edens, Laney Holsomback, Kathryn Russell, Bryce Bates, Mark Bearden, Genesis Quintos and Shyanne Lemieux.

The Calhoun Diving team was led by Joshua Tolson with 188.4 points to finish first, and Evan Bunch came in second with 160.05. Celeste Howe and Emma Long took fifth and sixth, respective­ly, with 94.4 and 93.05 points.

Calhoun will next compete at the Battle of Dalton on Saturday.
