The Alzheimer’s As­so­ci­a­tion will host a Care­giver Work­shop from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Tues­day, Dec. 5 at Cal­houn Sev­enth-day Ad­ven­tist Church. Those in at­ten­dance will have the op­por­tu­nity to learn from Ge­ri­atric Nurse Prac­ti­tioner Su­san Greene. Su­san will present The Ba­sics – Mem­ory Loss, De­men­tia, and Alzheimer’s Dis­ease. The work­shop pro­vides care­givers of Alzheimer’s dis­ease and other de­men­tias an op­por­tu­nity to in­ter­act with other fam­ily care­givers. The pro­gram is free and in­cludes lunch. United Way of Gor­don County’s Young Lead­ers So­ci­ety pro­vides op­por­tu­ni­ties for phil­an­thropic ser­vice, so­cial, and net­work­ing events. Our Lunch with Lead­ers pro­gram pro­vides mem­bers with a pos­i­tive learn­ing ex­pe­ri­ence while al­low­ing mem­bers to in­ter­act with pro­fes­sional lead­ers in the com­mu­nity. The mis­sion of the United Way of Gor­don County Young Lead­ers So­ci­ety is to foster op­por­tu­ni­ties for vol­un­teerism, phi­lan­thropy, and a spirit of car­ing through­out the com­mu­ni­ties in which we live and work with one or more of the 19 part­ner agen­cies of United Way of Gor­don County. Mem­ber­ship Re­quire­ments in­clude any­one be­tween the ages of 21-45; dues of $240 an­nu­ally and 20 vol­un­teer hours per­formed an­nu­ally. TALLATOONA BE­GINS LIHEAP HEAT­ING AS­SIS­TANCE. Nov. 1 is the date Tallatoona will be­gin ac­cept­ing ap­point­ments for the heat­ing as­sis­tance pro­gram. MOMS Club of Cal­houn is a new lo­cal chap­ter of an in­ter­na­tional non­profit group. MOMS Club is a sup­port group de­signed for the at-home mother of to­day. Mem­ber­ship is open to all moms who live in Gor­don County. Events are sched­uled week­days dur­ing the day and chil­dren are wel­come at all events. Moth­ers of any age chil­dren are wel­come. The goals of the group are to pro­vide a sup­port group for moth­ers who choose to stay at home to raise their chil­dren, pro­vide a fo­rum for top­ics of in­ter­est to all moth­ers, to help chil­dren in the com­mu­nity and per­form at least one ser­vice project yearly help­ing needy chil­dren.
