Healthy Living Through Integrated Health Care

Shell Point Retirement Community promotes a whole-person wellness model

-

Tucked along the Caloosahatchee River in Southwest Florida lies one of the nation’s premier senior living communities—Shell Point Retirement Community. In addition to its location in subtropical Fort Myers, resort-style amenities and innovative programming, the cornerstone of the award-winning community is its robust health care system.

Shell Point’s signature Lifecare product guarantees future long-term care, starting the moment a person moves in and continuing throughout the years to come. From independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care, Shell Point’s health system provides an onsite team of health professionals. Included are primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, specialty physicians, two state-of-the-art medical centers with lab and X-ray services, a full-service pharmacy, and rehabilitation center.

After retiring to Shell Point, it didn’t take long for resident Louise Redmond to value the benefits of the variety of medical care offered. The pet lover and avid volunteer had to pause her

active lifestyle after a leg injury. Fortunately, she didn’t have to leave her neighborhood to receive the care she needed during her recovery at the Larsen Pavilion Skilled Nursing Center. The Pavilion includes a rehabilitation unit, full-service pharmacy, medical offices and more.

“It was a challenging time but the medical staff looked out for my emotional needs as well as my physical,” Redmond explains. “Each person who worked with me provided continual encouragement. They made sure I knew that the goal was to get home and return to my energetic lifestyle.”

She praises Shell Point for its holistic approach to health care, called Healthy Living, which is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of each individual. Healthy Living coordinators are assigned to every resident after he or she moves in, in order to provide them with the support or resources they may need throughout their retirement years.

“During my stay at the rehab center, the team realized how much I missed walking outdoors so they responded with tremendous empathy and compassion by incorporating the Pavilion’s outdoor surroundings into my therapy program,” Redmond notes. That is one of many ways that Shell Point continues to provide an unparalleled lifestyle with the guarantee of lifelong care.

In addition to health care, wellness is also a major focus to enjoying life to its fullest at Shell Point. Through its innovative program called LifeQuest, Shell Point promotes personal wellness and community involvement through six specific dimensions of wellness: community and social, physical, spiritual, emotional, educational, and natural environment.

The whole-person wellness model is designed to encourage individuals to challenge themselves to set goals for a more balanced life. With that, residents have access to the resources, support systems, programs and services that allow them the freedom to be as active or engaged as they choose.

Shell Point furthered its commitment to providing integrated medical care with the groundbreaking of the new Larsen Health Center, set to open in fall 2021. When completed, the six-level, 200,000-square-foot medical center will feature private rooms, a full-service health clinic, pharmacy, enhanced memory care spaces, medical offices and more. Like many of the health care services, upscale amenities and innovative programs available throughout the community, this new addition will enhance daily living for everyone who calls Shell Point home.
