Chalkboard Alphabet

CardMaker - - Hand Lettering For Cards - Lettering and project by Nancy Burke

This alphabet looks best when drawn very straight. For a whimsical look, combine with your own cursive handwriting as in the card sample shown.

The straight lines of this alphabet can be achieved by using a ruler and lightly drawing guidelines with a pencil. Practice on scrap paper until you feel comfortable with this lettering style.

1. Using a pencil, lightly draw basic uppercase letters. Be sure to leave enough space between each letter so that you have plenty of room to add additional decorative lines.

2. Go back over each letter using a white gel pen, adjusting horizontal lines and widening the letters as shown. Use completed alphabet as a guide for line adjustments.

3. Add serifs or “tails” to letters. Add additional lines to the right and bottom of each letter to create a “drop shadow” effect. ●
