Let’s Color! Merry Metallics
Enjoy crafting holiday greeting cards that shimmer and shine! Colleen Schaan shows you how with metallic spray inks.
One of my favorite things about this time of year is that nearly everything takes on a holiday shine. From packages wrapped with paper and bows to bulbs and ornaments hanging from my tree, the holiday season isn’t complete unless I’ve given mine a sparkly metallic sheen. For this article, I’ll demonstrate how I’ve paired two of my favorite metallic products to give my holiday cards festive shimmer and shine.

Metallic Spray Inks
Spray inks are one of the easiest ways to add color to any project. There are a number of types of spray ink, and while not all of them contain reflective or shimmery properties, many of them do. Pick one or two of your favorite colors to create a lovely metallic background.
Step 1: Ink background stamp with watermark ink and stamp onto white cardstock.
Step 2: Immediately pour white embossing powder onto stamped cardstock covering entire surface. Pour excess powder back into the original container. Use embossing heat tool to heat-set powder.
Step 3: Spray one or two colors of metallic spay ink onto surface of embossed cardstock. Let ink pool and blend as desired. Let dry completely (Photo 1).
Step 4: Wipe excess ink from surface of embossed areas with a paper towel (Photo 2).
When I want a rich, reflective color for sentiments but don’t have the right ink, I reach for my metallic pens. Metallic pens come in a variety of styles, colors and sizes, which makes this easy technique one of my favorites!
Step 1: Ink sentiment stamp with watermark ink and stamp onto white cardstock.
Step 2: Using a metallic pen, trace inked sentiment (Photo 3). •
