Good Food De­liv­ers

The beauty of Ca­tron County is un­de­ni­able but col­lec­tively, we live in a ‘food desert.’ This of­fi­cial term char­ac­ter­izes a lo­ca­tion where fresh fruits and vegeta­bles are fur­ther than a 10 mile drive. How­ever, in the last year we in Pie Town and the sur­round­ing com­mu­ni­ties have been for­tu­nate to par­tic­i­pate in the Azure Co-op, an or­ganic food co-op which de­liv­ers lo­cally to Pie Town, Que­mado, and Datil.

The Azure Stan­dard Co- op, out of Ore­gon brings bulk grains, flours and beans, fresh, chilled and frozen pro­duce and pre­pared foods to a des­ig­nated drop off point in each of these towns. Although some may ob­ject to the some­what higher cost of Azure’s food be­cause of or­ganic stan­dards, when both time and gaso­line are fac­tored into the equa­tion, along with the higher grade of food avail­able and thus bet­ter health, or­der­ing through Azure Stan­dard is very sen­si­ble.
