Fes­ti­val of the Trees

Guadalupe Montes­sori School will re­vive the Fes­ti­val of Trees De­cem­ber 6-8. The school’s grounds will be trans­formed into a Win­ter Wonderland of live trees, hol­i­day dec­o­ra­tions and crafts, baked good­ies, and ac­tiv­i­ties. Fam­i­lies, school groups and com­mu­nity mem­bers are in­vited to visit the fes­ti­val to par­take in hol­i­day ac­tiv­i­ties and good­ies.

The Fes­ti­val of Trees has a long his­tory in Sil­ver City—it has been done by var­i­ous or­ga­ni­za­tions over the years, but has been on hia­tus since 2007. Guadalupe Montes­sori de­cided to bring back the Fes­ti­val as a fun com­mu­nity event with the hopes of in­creas­ing school fund­ing.

Live Colorado Spruce, Aus­trian Pine, and Pon­derosa Pine trees will be for sale, dec­o­rated by lo­cal in­di­vid­u­als, or­ga­ni­za­tions, and school class­rooms. Un­dec­o­rated trees, lo­cal cut white pine and fir, hand­made wreaths, swags, rose­mary trees, and poin­set­tias will also be for sale. Dec­o­rated trees can be re­served in ad­vance and cho­sen at the fes­ti­val. All pur­chases at the fes­ti­val can be made with cash, check or credit card. The end of the year ban­quet was held on May 21, where mem­bers and com­mu­nity mem­bers were rec­og­nized for their ac­com­plish­ments and a new of­fi­cer team in­stalled. The 2013-2014 Re­serve FFA Of­fi­cer Team is: Pres­i­dent-Camden Gan­ten­bein, VP-Sha­nia Liv­ingston, Sec.-Ta­mara Menges, Trea­surer-Ty Gatlin, Re­porterKatherin McCarty, Sen­tinelBen Fletcher, and His­to­ri­anRe­bekah McCarty.

On June 2-5, sev­eral mem­bers at­tended the NM State Con­ven­tion in Las Cruces. A team con­sist­ing of Katherin McCarty, Re­bekah McCarty, Camden Gan­ten­bein, and Lo- fi­cer Team re­tire their jack­ets and the 2013-14 State Of­fi­cer Team get in­ducted into their po­si­tions. Through­out the dif­fer­ent ses­sions, they lis­tened to the mo­ti­va­tional re­tir­ing ad­dresses of the 2012-13 State Of­fi­cer Team.

Two chap­ter of­fi­cers, Camden Gan­ten­bein and Re­bekah McCarty, at­tended the New Mex­ico FFA Lead­er­ship Camp from June 25-28. Cody Goetz showed a medium cross pig and Ky Drum­mond a steer in the light­weight Char­lay class. Ky placed first and made the sale. In Novem­ber, of­fi­cers trav­eled to Dem­ing for the Of­fi­cer Lead­er­ship Train­ing.
