US Se­na­tor Udall, chair­man of the sub­com­mit­tee that over­sees the IRS is­sued a warn­ing about a new phone scam. Vic­tims are told they owe money to the IRS, and must pay through a pre­loaded debit card or wire trans­fer. Scam­mers threaten ar­rest, de­por­ta­tion, or sus­pen­sion of a busi­ness or driver’s li­cense. Calls or emails may ap­pear to have orig­i­nated from the IRS. Al­ways use cau­tion when pro­vid­ing any in­for­ma­tion via tele­phone or elec­tronic me­dia.
