The In­ter­na­tional Dark-Sky As­so­ci­a­tion (IDA) is the rec­og­nized author­ity on light pol­lu­tion, which pro­tects the night skies for present and fu­ture gen­er­a­tions. They work to ed­u­cate the pub­lic and pol­i­cy­mak­ers about night sky con­ser­va­tion, pro­mote re­spon­si­ble out­door light­ing, and em­power the pub­lic with tools and re­sources to bring back the night.

Ev­ery year many the IDA awards in­di­vid­u­als and groups who have given of their time to im­prove our nighttime en­vi­ron­ment. This year, Pie Town Ris­ing Stars, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit was awarded a Dark Sky De­fender Award for tak­ing steps to keep Pie Town’s skies dark.
