Obituary: Billy Armstrong
Billy John Armstrong, 84, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 in Quemado. He was born August 6, 1931 in Knott, Texas, the son of Sidney Ulysses and Edna Mae Fletcher Armstrong.
Bill had eight siblings; Raymond, Jake, Montie, Harlen, Calvin, L.D., Louise and Wynon. All have preceded him in death. Bill moved from Texas with his family when he was three years old in 1934. They moved 8 miles north of Quemado onto property that some of the family still owns.
Bill was an Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a deacon in the
Quemado Baptist Church for many years. He was also a businessman, store owner and mechanic and had the only wrecker service for miles around. Bill also volunteered for the Quemado Fire Dept. and was Fire Chief for some time. He helped organize a Boy Scout group in Quemado that was active for a while. He loved taking the boys camping and loved his family and being outdoors.
Bill has left behind his loving wife of 60 plus years, Bonnie Brown Armstrong, five children, Carlton (Marita), Clifford (Dawn), Grover (Terri), Jerry (Yvonne) and Verlene (Greg) Baca; fifteen grandchildren, Jeremy (Rachel) Armstrong, Dustin (Ricki) Armstrong, Emily (Justin) Gossett, Marriedachaire Garcia and partner Melvin, Marissa Garcia, Manuel Garcia and partner Zillisa, Alea Garcia-Armstrong, Kristi (Andy) Turner, Jesse Armstrong, Tyler Armstrong and partner Nakita Hammer, Kendal (Amanda) Armstrong, Randa (Felix) Vallejas, Sheena Armstrong, Amanda Cox and partner Daniel Harris and Billy Baca; twenty greatgrandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
A Funeral Service was held Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Quemado High School. Interment followed the Funeral Services at the Quemado Community Cemetery.
