Celebrations All Around

Catron Courier - - Front Page - by Leticia Incremona

I had the privilege of meeting a really extraordinary woman last month. This woman was being celebrated by her family and friends for her 80th birthday. I haven't lived here very long and I enjoy watching the bonds longtime community members have.

This woman's name is Elvira Fernandez. According to what I gathered from her son Alfredo, she was born in Mexico in 1936. Elvira came to America with her husband Mr. Alfredo Fernandez in 1986, they have six children.

As people came up to celebrate Mrs. Fernandez, I was in awe of how loved she is. She and her family have been and continue to be a vital part of this Quemado family. Her husband worked for Hubbel and Green Cattle Company for 30 years! He is sorely missed. Mrs. Fernandez took a job offer from Mrs. Armstrong to work in the senior center, a job that she enjoyed for eleven years. The comments about her loyalty and dependability were admirable and to be emulated for sure.

Her family thanks first and foremost Jesus Christ and everyone who came out to celebrate this amazing woman, wife, mom and friend.
