Purple Onion’s Best

Catron Courier - - Front Page - by Kathy Knapp

Tom and Amy, along with their family, specialize in homemade EVERYTHING. Not just juicy, mouthwatering green Chile cheeseburgers, but fresh sides of coleslaw, potato salad, pasta salad…AND vegetarian entrées. They work very hard to ensure each and every item they make is quality, and they don't scrimp on quantity.

It feels like you're at “Gramma's house” when you sit down to eat at their charming oasis in the canyon in Mogollon. This is quite a feat in this remote location, as they bring all their supplies up a narrow winding mountain road from Alma, 12 miles away, and their nearest grocery store is Silver City, approximately 80 miles (one way) from Mogollon. Nothing beats one of their freshly grilled Chile cheeseburgers, served with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, and of course, a thick slice of purple onion, after a beautiful hike in the surrounding wilderness.

I have been enjoying their tasty treats for many years and am very happy for their much-deserved success!
