Meeting on Holloman Flights
regarding the Holloman Air Force Base Special Use Airspace Optimization Project.
This is not a public scoping meeting nor is it a public input meeting. However, the public is invited to attend and provide written comments. Written comments should be submitted electronically on the official USAF comment sheet.
Written comments and questions can be given to Mr. Shafer at the meeting. The official comment sheet is available online, at the Grant County Administration Building and will be available at the meeting.
Please include in your written comments a request for the Air Force to hold a public input/scoping meeting in Silver City when the draft EIS is ready for public review and comment, which should be 6-12 months from now.

A public meeting on Holloman flights over the Gila is set for November 14 at 6 PM at the Grant County Administration Building.
Holloman Air Force Base is requesting special use airspace for training F-16 pilots. One of the alternatives being considered is to expand its existing airspace into southwestern NM, including the Gila National Forest and Gila and Aldo Leopold Wilderness.
The Air Force did not hold a public meeting in Silver City or notify local elected officials, the public, or conservation groups of its proposal, despite the potential for negative impacts.
In response to a strong public outcry, efforts of the conservation community, and leadership from our local Grant County Commissioners, the Air Force will attend this public meeting hosted by the Grant County Commission.
According to Grant County Commissioner Alicia Edwards who has taken the lead on this issue, Alan Shafer, USAF HQ/A30T, will present information to the Grant County Commission
