Applications for Academies
Senators Udall and Heinrich, and Representative Pearce have begun accepting applications for nominations to US military service academies. High school students and recent graduates can apply to enter an academy in the fall of 2019 for the US Military Academy (West Point), the US Naval Academy, the US Air Force Academy and the US Merchant Marine Academy. These require a congressional, vice presidential or service-connected nomination as part of the application process. The US Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination.
"Each year, I have the honor of nominating some of the best and brightest young people from across New Mexico to our nation's military service academies," said Senator Udall. "These service academy information sessions are a great opportunity for students and parents to learn more about the nominating process and to meet with representatives from the academies and New Mexico collegiate ROTC programs."
US military service academies are among the most competitive colleges in the nation and provide those who enroll with an excellent edu- cation and opportunities for leadership in both military and civilian life.
Students have until Oct. 12, 2018, to submit an application for nomination. Prospective applicants are encouraged to begin the application process well in advance.
There are also information sessions on May 5 At Four Corners Service Academy Information Day from 1 to 4PM at the Farmington High School, 2200 N. Sunset Ave., Farmington, NM and on May 8 at Military Service Academy Information Session from 6 to 8 PM at Carlsbad High School Lecture Hall, 3000 W. Church St., Carlsbad, NM.
