The San Francisco Valley 4-H members have been busy for the past few months preparing for the Fair which was August 22 to 25. An update on the SFV 4-H at the Fair and how our members placed will be in the next issue.
On July 27, Clayton Jump, Jake Jump, and Lori Robertson presented their show animals to some of the San Francisco Valley 4-H members as part of the club’s annual Project Tour. After the presentation of the show animals, the attending members gathered at the McKeen's resi- dence for lunch and swimming.
On July 28, a Livestock Jackpot was held in Reserve. Lambs, pigs, and goats were shown. Lori Robertson, showing a meat goat, won second in her class and also achieved first place in Senior Market Goat Showmanship. Lori also showed one of Brooke Becker's market lambs, as both of her lambs were placed in the same weight class. Corbin Becker showed market swine, won third in his class and Junior Pig Showmanship. Kayla Manning also competed in the market swine class, and won first in her class as well as Grand Champion overall, and won Senior Pig Showmanship. Brooke Becker showed market lambs, won Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, and Senior Market Lamb Showmanship. Brooke also showed one of Corbin's pigs, as there was only one class of market swine at the Jackpot.
Saturday August 11, was the day of the fairgrounds clean-up. Corbin Becker, Brooke Becker, Alexandra Hemmer, Carly Parnell, Colton Parnell, Dallon Parnell, and their families all helped clean up the fairgrounds.
On August 14, the San Francisco Valley 4-H Club held their eighth meeting for the year of 2018. This meeting was also the last meeting before the Fair. The members gave an update on their projects. We discussed old and new business alike. Kayla Manning and Brooke Becker both gave a report on the Jackpot. We discussed the time, the food, and the beverages we would sell at the concession at the Fair.
