CBS Soaps In Depth - - Sound Off -

Beyond the scope of his work on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, Thorsten Kaye (Ridge) prefers to live a quiet life outside of the public eye, but that’s not to say he’s put off by excited fans. “If people recognize you and are happy to see you, that’s a big deal,” he explains, remembering a former colleague from another soap who wasn’t necessarily so enlightened. “This person would get all pissed off if we were stopped by fans. They’d say, ‘Oh, I just hate it.’ And I said, ‘Well, if you don’t want to be recognized, then go be a waiter or sell shoes or do something different.’” Kaye admits he can be just as much of a diehard fan when he sees an athlete from his beloved Detroit Redwings, for example. “I get giddy when I see some players that I like,” he says, “not because I know them as people but because I admire what they do on the ice.” Kaye tries to keep that same perspective in mind when soap fans are excited to meet him, reminding himself, “It doesn’t cost me anything to just stop and say hi.”

Kaye can identify with the excitement of fans.
