What’s Your Sign?

CBS Soaps In Depth - - Sound Off -

To say a background in theater has taught Alex Wyse (Saul) to think on his feet would be a vast understatement, considering one of his stage shows required him to learn a second language! Appearing in an updated interpretation of Spring Awakening, which featured deaf actors among the cast, meant that Wyse was required to learn American Sign Language. “It was an amazing ex- perience,” he recalls. “All the hearing people in the cast learned sign language, and the deaf people in the cast learned [the ins and outs of musical theater]. It was two cultures coming together, and it ended up being quite an amazing ride.” Now that he’s added the soap to his list of credits, Wyse sees many similarities between working in daytime and performing on stage. “We rehearse quickly, shoot full scenes and make changes on the fly, so I think the work I’ve done in theater has served me really well and made B&B feel really comfortable.”

Live performances don’t faze Wyse.
