Gold Star: Scott Clifton (Liam)

THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’S Scott Clifton manned up for Liam’s aggressive take-down of his father!

It was quite a week for THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’S Scott Clifton when Liam ran the gamut from “corporate-coup instigator” to “new sheriff in town” and, finally, “knight in shining armor” in the span of just a few short days. There were many facets to be played in scenes that marked a true turning point in the character’s trajectory on the show. Not only did Clifton navigate it all in stride, he reminded us of why we love watching his effortless portrayal. Liam may have landed his father’s company, but Clifton earned our Gold Star — and that’s nothing to sneeze at!

A Stand-up Guy… Literally!

We’re not certain Liam’s blackmail ploy would have actually worked had he not been able to match Bill’s own level of anger and outrage, word for word. “Dad, I have a recording of you confessing to arson, but that’s not even the sick thing,” he ex- plained. “You want to know what the sick thing is? That was just another day at the office for you!”

Though accustomed to mocking his son for being a moral crusader, Bill wasn’t laughing this time. It was a David-versus-Goliath scenario, only there was no debate about who would win. “Who cares about the little guy, as long as you get what you want?” Liam pondered. “Well, as it happens, I do. I care about the little guy, and I am in a position to do something about it.”

Simply put, Liam was playing hardball and knew he’d already won the game. That didn’t make him smug; rather, it made him certain. Commanding, even. He held his ground right up until the moment that Bill knocked it out from under him with a right hook! (And kudos to Clifton for making it look as though the punch really hurt!)

Tough Yet Tender

Clifton showed his alter ego’s civility-imbued strength during his interaction with several shocked Spencer employees — including Bill’s henchman, Justin, from whom Liam demanded an oath of loyalty. But challenging scenes still lay ahead when Liam summoned Sally to his office to explain that he was giving her ownership of the Spectra Fashions property. It was a test of their chemistry, to be sure, and the scenes went over well, thanks, in part, to the humility and charm Clifton displayed in the face of Sally’s gratitude. “You really do deserve this,” Liam assured her. “It’s not a charity case. It’s just… what’s right.”

The redhead was tickled pink, and we daresay it wasn’t just the bill of sale in her hands that made her feel that way. She felt a real connection with Liam, and their sweet banter gave us every reason to believe that Steffy ought to be worried.

Supplanting his father required a toughness we’ve never seen from Liam before, but the tenderness we’ve come to associate with him was still readily apparent. It’s a dichotomy that will be interesting to see him straddle in the weeks and months to come, and with Clifton in command, we’re certain it will be fascinating to watch!

Even when Liam was being punched, his portrayer managed to knock us out.
