The CW’S DYNASTY reboot brings back the shenanigans of the family you loved — but with unexpected twists!

CBS Soaps In Depth - - Ins & Outs - — Kelli M. Larson

The family rivalries, the intrigue, the lovers’ quarrels, and OMG! the catfights! Yep, the DYNASTY you knew and loved is back, and dare we say, even better. The only thing missing from The CW’S modernday reboot are the ’80s shoulder pads! The series that was once appointment TV can now be viewed on multiple platforms, but trust us, you’re gonna want to be watching the premiere live on Wednesday, October 11, at 9 p.m. EST. “You wouldn’t want to learn spoilers,” showrunner Sallie Patrick warns. “Just like it was with the original series, there will be lots of fun watercooler moments.”

Does Father Know Best?

Grant Show — the MELROSE PLACE and DEVIOUS MAIDS alum who got his big break playing Rick on RYAN’S HOPE — stars as patriarch Blake Carrington, who’s made his fortune via global energy empire Carrington Atlantic. “In Blake’s eyes, his son, Steven, was going to become the heir, but because of Steven’s political and environmental views, that’s backfired,” Patrick reveals, adding that debates about fracking and moving toward renewable energy sources bring modernity to the tale. “Ste- ven will eventually find a way to work within the Carrington umbrella without being an antagonist… until he discovers something worse that his father’s been up to!”

It Starts With A Wedding!

Steven’s business-savvy sister, Fallon, has “their mother Alexis’ DNA,” Patrick notes, “but she’s much feistier and stronger — not just in business but also in attitude — than the original character.”

Daddy’s girl is used to getting her way, and what she wants most is to be named COO of the company. However, if that’s why she thinks Blake has called her and Steven home, she’s in for a shock. Rather, she’s about to learn that Dad’s planning to get hitched to a beautiful company staffer named Cristal Flores (who’d recently been

involved with married fellow employee Matthew Blaisdel). “Fallon presumes that Cristal is a gold digger,” Patrick previews, “and because Cristal does have a complicated history that she’s not openly sharing, Fallon has great instincts not to trust her.”

The Battles Begin

Now competing for both her father’s affections and control of the company, Fallon will slap on a smile and silently scheme with Blake’s nemesis, billionaire Jeff Colby, while her undercover lover, Carrington chauffeur Michael Culhane, looks on. Meanwhile, Steven and Cristal will discover that they have an unexpected connection via a certain someone who has wormed his way into their lives. “We have several really fun arcs planned: dramatic instances of ‘certain people’ coming in that are either a threat to the family or a complication to individual characters,” Patrick says. “By the end of the season, we’ll see how even Fallon and Cristal will be forced to come together.”

“With this update, we wanted to focus a little less on the patriarch,” Patrick explains, “and more on the children competing [to take charge].”

“Just like the original, this DYNASTY is a dollhouse fantasy about how these people live and how they live with themselves,” the showrunner says.
