Into The Wild
An outdoor enthusiast, Ingo Rademacher (Thorne) encourages his sons Peanut, 9, and Pohaku, 5, to be equally at one with Mother Nature, which is why he embarked on an extensive hike with his firstborn last fall. “I really wanted to be in the middle of nowhere with him,” explains the actor. “My wife was worried about it. She said, ‘ Can you take anoth- er adult with you?’ I said, ‘No. It’s just going to be him and I.’” The duo set off on foot in some mildly mountainous terrain in California between Wrightwood and Mt. Baldy. “It’s about 12 miles [between those two towns],” Rademacher explains. “If you get hurt in the middle there, you’re getting helicoptered out. And if you get stuck there overnight, it can get down to 26 degrees.” Fortunately, Rademacher shares the Boy Scouts’ motto of “Be Prepared,” so he made sure that he and Peanut were ready for anything on their sojourn. “We had matches and blankets… pretty much everything,” he says, “and it was all good. The hike was so incredible!”
