In a new recurring feature, Soaps In Depth looks back at some of the hairdos that have kept your favorite characters head and shoulders above the rest. This issue: THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Nikki
Take a look back at Nikki’s most memorable hairstyles!
When THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Nikki Newman walks into a room, people stare. In part, that’s because they’ve all seen her picture in the dictionary next to the definition of “drop-dead-gorgeous.” (The on-again/off-again Mrs. Newman knows how to turn heads!) In part, folks gawk because she’s one of the richest, most powerful women in Genoa City (if not the richest and most powerful). But, as often as not, they can’t tear their eyes away from her because she’s unveiled another traffic-stopping hairdo. Just take a gander at these shots of Nikki over the years, and you’ll see what we mean — every cut she’s had has been sharp!
With her lustrous locks, Nikki had no trouble making herself a standout in the “big-hair” 1980s. If only she hadn’t had such troubles rolling around in her pretty young head…
“Crimping” Her Style
Nikki’s never hesitated to make waves — whether in her relationships or with her hairstyle. This particular look only made it easier for her in the ’90s to get Victor and/or Jack tangled in her curls.
Strange but true: The longer Nikki lets her hair grow, the silkier it seems to get! Can you imagine if she’d ever let it extend to the Rapunzel-esque lengths that crazy Lisa Mansfield did?
A sophisticated updo is the perfect remedy for Nikki on those days when she’s feeling a little down. And, considering how many divorces she’s gone through, down days are kind of a given.
Although the mistress of the manor left her stripper days in the past along with her feathered boa, Nikki still occasionally goes wild — with her hair, that is!
Nikki has the rare face that’s so lovely, it can pull off short cuts as well as long locks. As an added bonus, this look made it at least a little harder for rivals like Sharon or Ashley to pull her hair.
On The Levels
For a while there, Nikki’s hair had as many layers as she did. And, at bob length, this style added extra drama whenever she turned around suddenly to react to a shocking remark.
Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel
Nikki showed off her playful side with a modern take on Farrah Fawcett’s iconic ’70s ’do. All she was missing was a pair of sidekicks and a ringleader on speakerphone.
The Dark Side
When Nikki rang in 2010 as a brunette, she could have passed for Elizabeth Taylor. She didn’t stick with the look for long, but it made a lasting impression.
Eat your heart out, Veronica Lake! Any time Nikki gives her hair a film-noir wave, viewers know it’s time to pop some corn, kick back and savor the drama.
Nikki could’ve stepped off the ranch and into a music video with this rockin’ look. “Up we go,” Nikki told her hairdresser. Saying “Cut!” can mean more than that a scene is over.
Nikki’s hair was the gold at the end of the rainbow top. So shiny was Nikki’s hair this day that she needed to wear shades.
Nikki’s hair is so well-trained that this is how it looks with a wind machine on.
Eat your heart out, Jennifer Aniston! Frankly, Victor, she doesn’t give a damn! Nikki’s blonde ambition: looking flawless. Tres sleek!
