Q.I was surprised when Steffy “proposed” to Hope on Liam’s behalf on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, but didn’t Stephanie do something similar to Brooke? Rachael via E-mail

A:It was similar, yes, but the context was completely different! Under duress, Stephanie did place an engagement ring from Ridge (then Ronn Moss) on Brooke’s finger. Long before Brooke and Stephanie finally kissed and made up, Ridge planned on popping the question during a 2003 press conference announcing his and Brooke’s latest venture, Logan Designs. Stephanie, as was her nature, made a scene, ordering him not to propose. Enraged, Ridge pulled his mom out of the press conference and told her that he would cut her out of his life forever if she didn’t apologize to Brooke… and place his ring on Brooke’s finger! With much distaste, Stephanie did as her son requested, but, as you can probably imagine, she wasn’t nearly as magnanimous as Steffy was with Hope!

Q.Is it my imagination or did I hear that THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Katherine’s portrayer, the late, legendary Jeanne Cooper once was involved in a feud with showbiz vet Betty White (ex-ann, B&B)? Shania K. via E-mail

A.It’s not your imagination, Shania… but it’s not exactly the truth, either. The origins of this can be traced back to Cooper’s mischievous sense of humor and the time both attended an event for the Humane Society in the 1970s. “I thought to pull her leg,” the Emmy winner told Soaps In Depth years ago. “I said, ‘My dog, Cookie, is sort of a science miracle. She’s had over 52 puppies!’ She was like, ‘52 puppies!’ Then she turned away and never spoke to me the whole trip!” It wasn’t until 40 years later when White guest-starred on B&B that Cooper finally revealed to the animal lover that she wasn’t actually serious and it was just a joke!

Q.I read once that Y&R’S Peter Bergman (Jack) suggested the doppelganger storyline where Victor brought Marco to Genoa City to replace his long-time rival. Is that true? Carrie D. via E-mail

A.There are some actors who like to chat with soap scribes about their characters, and even suggest upcoming storylines, but Bergman is not one of them! “People ask me all the time, ‘Do you talk to the writers?’” shares the Emmy winner. “And I always tell them, ‘No! Absolutely not!’” That’s not to say, though, that Bergman doesn’t have a wish for the scribes of the sudser. “If I had anything to say to the writers, it would be this: Whenever Jack breaks up with someone, he’s always over it so much faster than I — Peter — want him to be. If I had my druthers, Jack would fall into a two month funk!”

“And while we’re here, I’m going to need you to pinky swear to never fight again.”

Cooper wound up getting the best — at least for a while — of White!

“Just because I tried using that giant platter to serve pasta doesn’t mean I’m not acting like myself!”
