Phyllis Sees Billy In A New Light!
THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Phyllis has always known that Billy was a gambler. But knowing something on an intellectual level and actually seeing it happen are two very different things.
For Phyllis, the moment of truth came when Billy, still on a high after winning in Vegas, bought her a diamond necklace. “I just wanted to make sure that you know how much I appreciated you spending this time with me in this part of my life. Nobody’s ever done that for me before,” he marveled, which prompted a more cautious Phyllis to remind, “Part of me supporting you is helping you to gamble responsibly and manage your winnings.”
The problem with addicts, however, is they fail to recognize the yawning black hole in front of them. Certainly, Billy was quick to dismiss his
sweetheart’s concern, while inflating his own invincibility. “As long as I know my limits, we are good. And my limits just got higher!” he declared, flashing her a cocky grin.
Unfortunately, Phyllis made the decision to stand by her man, even if it meant standing next to him at the poker tables… or betting on the horses. And when Billy lost $5,000 on the race that he’d insisted was a sure thing, we practically saw Phyllis bite her tongue so she wouldn’t turn into a shrieking shrew for fear of pushing the hunk away. Gina Tognoni and Jason Thompson offered pitchperfect performances opposite each other as their characters moved into a new dynamic, with Phyllis wanting to be the cheerleader without becoming Billy’s enabler, and him once again enthralled by the excitement in high-stakes gambling.
Billy lost Victoria because of his obsession. Will he lose Phyllis as well? We’re going to say that when it comes to Philly — the couple, not the racehorse — all bets are off!
