Thomas Foster Yonts, Jr.
Thomas Foster Yonts, Jr., age 79, of Elkton, MD, went to the Lord on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. Born in Pulaski, VA, he was the son of the late Thomas F., Sr. and Bessie Smith Yonts.
Tom attended the engineering program at Virginia Tech and remained a country boy his entire life. He won multi-state championships with his foxhunting hounds and proudly coached football for the North East Indians for 12 years. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Tom retired from the Chrysler Corporation, Newark, DE, as a manager after 30 years of service. He enjoyed his well-deserved retirement and developed an expertise in antique furniture, woodworking, local duck decoys, and gardening. He was a lifelong learner who read extensively for the pleasure of gaining knowledge. Tom enjoyed daily Tai Chi training and feeding his squirrels. He was an honorable and decent man who lived with grace and kindness.
He will be missed and fondly remembered by his wife, Ruth; sons, John and Michael; grandson, Brett; and extended family members, Jean, Frank, Dustin, Jason, Brittany and Michelle.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2016, in Sharps Cemetery, Fair Hill, MD.
