Singerly Banquet Hall offers new catering choices

— The Singerly Fire Company began offering multiple catering options for anyone renting its 541-seat capacity banquet hall as of Jan. 1.

Singerly’s smaller banquet hall, known as Memorial Hall, with a seat capacity of 120, has no food restrictions, allowing customers to bring their own food.

“We want to get the word out about these changes,” said Singerly Fire Company President Phillip Scott, who is now in his third year as president. “In the past, our only source of food service

for banquet hall rentals was our Ladies Auxiliary.”

Leadership at the fire company has been working on the changes for about a year, according to Scott.

“We wanted to improve our customer service and become more competitive,” he said, explaining that Frank Lewis, who is director of hall operations, took the lead on new business model.

Under the new policy, large hall renters can choose among four caterers, including: Your Personal Chef by Lisa Welch in Rising Sun; Simply Savory Catering by Angela Wiley in Elkton; Lindsey’s Catering by Mike Dixon in Middletown, Del.; and Chef Du Jour Catering by Jamie Wiest in Elkton. They may also choose Singerly Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary through President Holly Trego.

The process of choosing the four outside caterers included interviews and samples from about a dozen companies before a decision was made. All of the caterers are licensed and insured.

“We took out a lot of the little fees we used to add into a rental and increased our food service options,” Lewis said.

Trego, who heads up the auxiliary, said that all of the caterers in the new program are competitive with prices, based on menu choices.

“If a customer rents the big hall and chooses one of the five catering options on Singerly’s preferred list, the fee for the hall is $800 for four hours,” Lewis said.

“Customers who choose a caterer not on the preferred list will pay $1,200 for four hours of the big hall in addition to a $4 per plate fee,” he said, explaining that Singerly’s new price structure is designed to drive business to the preferred list, but still offer options.

Lewis said Singerly’s big banquet hall is 8,000 square-feet and can accommodate a maximum of 800 people not seated at tables.

“Many of the other banquet halls operated by other fire companies in the county have one exclusive caterer, but we wanted to be different by offering a wider selection,” Lewis said.

Anyone interested in more information may contact Trego at 410-398-2078.
