Panthers keep rolling, down Mustangs in softball
Perryville maintained its perfect start to the season Monday, topping host C.M. Wright 5-3 in Chesapeake Division softball action to claim its fifth-straight win.
Trailing 3-0 after four innings, the Panthers (5-0 overall, 3-0 division) scored four times in the fifth inning and once more in the seventh to emerge victorious.
Lydia Hill (run) knocked in three runs on three hits, including a double, and Amber Keene also drove in a run for Perryville, while pitcher Emily Phillips scattered eight hits and one walk while striking out three in a complete-game effort.
A pair of costly errors on the first two plays of the fifth inning contributed to the loss for the Mustangs (3-1, 1-1), who combined to hit three doubles on the afternoon.
Eagles tame Bobcats
Rachel Jones gave up three runs (one earned) over 6 1-3 innings to help lead Bohemia Manor past visiting Bel Air 4-3 in Chesapeake Division softball action on Monday.
Zoe Lockwood (run) finished 3-3 with two doubles and an RBI and Megan Horsey drove in a run on two hits for the Eagles (5-1 overall, 2-1 division), who received an RBI from Taylor Abshagen, a triple and a run from Melinda Morgan, a double and a run from Anna Tidaback and a single and a run scored from Morgan Mullin.
Gwen Markowski went 3-4 with a double and an RBI single, while Sarah Fleischmann, Arianna Dramis and Morgan Dvorak all finished with two hits for the Bobcats (3-1, 1-1).
Dill throws no-hitter as Indians win big
Molly Dill threw a nohitter as North East blasted visiting Patterson Mill 10-0 in five innings in Susquehanna Division softball action on Monday.
Dill issued zero walks and struck out nine of the 15 batters she faced from the circle, while at the plate she went 3-4 with a triple two runs scored and an RBI for the Indians (3-2 overall, 3-0 division), who received a two-RBI triple and two runs scored from Kaitlyn Stew- art, four RBIs and a run scored on two hits from Jess Choplinksy and a two-run single off the bat of Kaylea Palmer.
The Huskies fall to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the lower division.
UCBAC Baseball Elks edge Cobras
Elkton defeated visiting Harford Tech 4-3 in Chesapeake Division baseball action on Monday.
Mike Moran picked up the win on the mound, allowing one earned run over five innings for the Golden Elks (2-3 overall, 1-2 division), who received a two-run single from Troy Cherwaty and an RBI single from Anthony Alexander.
Kyle Spencer (one inning pitched), Nick Gregson (save) and Nathan Bakeoven all added singles and scored a run in the victory.
Tigers fall to Hawks
Rising Sun fell to host North Harford 3-1 in five innings in Chesapeake Division baseball action on Monday.
The Tigers fall to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the upper divison.
Colin Bowling struck out seven while giving up three hits over five innings for the Hawks (4-2, 1-2).
Panthers win big
Perryville defeated host Joppatowne 14-0 in five innings in Susquehanna Division baseball action on Monday.
Jake Eldreth and Brady Krahn both drove in two runs, Kody Brown scored twice and seven other players contributed an RBI for the Panthers (2-3 overall, 2-1 division), who received a victory on the mound from Zach Strong.
Youth Soccer Kickers earn shutout
The Cecil Kickers scored four times in the second half to defeat the MDSL Fire 4-0 over the weekend.
Gabriella Pileggi scored twice, Saylor Bare scored once and dished out two assists and Kamryn Marcinkevich netted a goal off an assist from Kylie Narvell for Cecil, which received six saves from goalie Shadai Givens and stellar defense from defender Abby Cocco, Kayla Morton, Zoe Mace and Erika Clarke.
