Vir­ginia Dare Wil­ton, 93, of Elk­ton, MD passed away Satur­day, April 9, 2016. Born in Han­d­ley, WV on June 23, 1922, she was the daugh­ter of the late Robert and Vi­vian Arthur.

M rs . Wil­ton came to Elk­ton dur­ing WWII to work at Tri­umph Ex­plo­sives as a press op­er­a­tor. Af­ter the war she re­turned to West Vir­ginia and she and her hus­band, Jack, lived with her daugh­ter, Gin­ger. In 1951 they re­turned to Elk­ton where she was a wait­ress at Rose’s Diner for 20 years. She learned to drive at age 56, fol­low­ing the death of her hus­band. She was a mem­ber of North East Faith Taber­na­cle (now Bay Church) and loved to tell sto­ries of her child­hood in West Vir­ginia and her life in Elk­ton dur­ing the war.

Mrs. Wil­ton was a lov­ing mother, grand­mother, aunt and friend.

Sur­vivors in­clude her daugh­ter, Gin­ger Scott, Clay­ton, DE; grand­sons Don­ald Luff, whom she raised, Burnie, Jack and Bill Luff; five great grand­chil­dren and sev­eral great, great grand­chil­dren (whom she never met); sib­lings, Robert and Franklin Arthur, both of Elk­ton, MD; Jean (Joan) Null, Jerry Stubbs, many nieces and neph­ews in­clud­ing her clos­est niece Shirley Leigg (Jim), Bowie, MD. She is also sur­vived by close friend, Lena Doles, Linda Shel­ton and Thelma Stan­ton, as well as many oth­ers friends from work and her neigh­bor­hood.

In ad­di­tion to her par­ents and her hus­band of 37years, Jack Wil­ton, she was pre­ceded in death by sis­ters, Vi­vian Con­ley, Vi­o­let Hutchinson, Vi­ola Eg­gle­ton and Bil­lie Mor­ris.

Fu­neral ser­vice will be held 1 p.m., Wed­nes­day, April 13 at Hicks Home for Fu­ner­als, 103 W. Stock­ton St., Elk­ton, where vis­i­ta­tion will be­gin at 12 noon. In­ter­ment will be in Gilpin Manor Me­mo­rial Park.
