Virginia D. Wilton
Virginia Dare Wilton, 93, of Elkton, MD passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016. Born in Handley, WV on June 23, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Vivian Arthur.
M rs . Wilton came to Elkton during WWII to work at Triumph Explosives as a press operator. After the war she returned to West Virginia and she and her husband, Jack, lived with her daughter, Ginger. In 1951 they returned to Elkton where she was a waitress at Rose’s Diner for 20 years. She learned to drive at age 56, following the death of her husband. She was a member of North East Faith Tabernacle (now Bay Church) and loved to tell stories of her childhood in West Virginia and her life in Elkton during the war.
Mrs. Wilton was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
Survivors include her daughter, Ginger Scott, Clayton, DE; grandsons Donald Luff, whom she raised, Burnie, Jack and Bill Luff; five great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren (whom she never met); siblings, Robert and Franklin Arthur, both of Elkton, MD; Jean (Joan) Null, Jerry Stubbs, many nieces and nephews including her closest niece Shirley Leigg (Jim), Bowie, MD. She is also survived by close friend, Lena Doles, Linda Shelton and Thelma Stanton, as well as many others friends from work and her neighborhood.
In addition to her parents and her husband of 37years, Jack Wilton, she was preceded in death by sisters, Vivian Conley, Violet Hutchinson, Viola Eggleton and Billie Morris.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 13 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, where visitation will begin at 12 noon. Interment will be in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park.
