Former North East pole vaulter Bertrand places 1st for WVU
West Virginia University senior Tori Bertrand, who graduated from North East High, secured a victory in the pole vault during Saturday’s Mason Spring Track and Field Invitational in Fairfax, Va.
Bertrand jumped her lifetime best, climbing to a height of 3.91 meters, the third-best outdoor score in team history. She was one of three West Virginia pole vaulters to place in the top five.
Youth Soccer Cecil Kickers suffer shutout
Despite outshooting its opponent by eight attempts, the Cecil Kickers fell to Pipeline SC 3-0 over the weekend.
Shadai Givens recorded four saves for Cecil (1-1), which was tied 0-0 at halftime.
UCBAC Baseball Indians win big over Warriors
North East rode an 11-run third inning to upend visiting Havre de Grace 13-1 in five innings in Susquehanna Division baseball action on Monday.
Cameron Blankenship (two doubles, four RBIs) and Eric Steele (three runs) both recorded three hits, while Chase Hollister (two hits) and Colt Price both added two RBIs for the Indians (6-3 overall, 3-2 division), who led 2-0 after two frames.
From the mound, Blankenship scattered three hits and struck out seven over four innings to pick up the win.
The Warriors fall to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the lower division. Eagles shut out Rams
Bohemia Manor defeated visiting Edgewood 7-0 in Susquehanna Division baseball action on Monday.
Josh Heath allowed two hits and struck out six in a complete-game effort from the mound, while at the dish he record three hits for the Eagles, who received two hits from Bo Matherly, three RBIs from Gage Walklett and two RBIs from Tyler Ferguson.
The Rams fall to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the lower division.
Elks double up Hawks
Elkton topped host North Harford 8-4 in Chesapeake Division baseball action on Monday.
Mike Moran threw a complete-game, giving up two earned runs on six hits and Nathan Bakeoven finished 2-4 with three RBIs at the plate for the Golden Elks (3-5 overall, 2-4 division), who received a two-run single from Anthony Alexander and RBI singles from Matt Coy and Troy Cherwaty.
Garrett Dickson had two singles and an RBI and Jeff Mergler (RBI) tripled and singled for the Hawks (5-3, 3-3).
Panthers fall to Aberdeen
Perryville fell to host Aberdeen 2-0 in Susquehanna Division baseball action on Monday.
Sam Smith (triple) and Jack Smith (double) both went 2-3 with an RBI for the Eagles (43, 4-1).
Tigers suffer loss
Rising Sun fell to visiting Patterson Mill 12-2 in six innings in Chesapeake Division baseball action on Monday.
Phil Lyons had two hits for the Tigers (2-6 overall, 1-5 division).
Kyle Goudy went 5-5 with three doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Jake Sheesley (RBI, run, two stolen bases) and Cooper Mattheu (three runs, RBI, walk) both went 3-3 for for the Huskies (5-2, 5-1).
UCBAC Softball Eagles edge Mustangs
Bohemia Manor topped visiting C.M. Wright 4-3 in Chesapeake Division softball action on Monday.
Taylor Abshagen tossed a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and one walk with five strikeouts for the Eagles, who received two doubles and a run scored from Rachel Jones and two hits, including a double, and one RBI from Melinda Morgan.
Zoe Lockwood (run), Kayla McNeal (RBI), Megan Horsey (RBI, run) and Justine Borneman (run) all added a hit in the victory.
The Mustangs drop to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the upper division.
Indians sneak by Warriors
North East edged visiting Havre de Grace 3-2 in Susquehanna Division softball action on Monday.
The Indians (5-2 overall, 5-0 division) scored twice in the sixth inning before walking off in the seventh.
The Warriors fall to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the lower division.
UCBAC Baseball Eagles topple Panthers
Bohemia Manor defeated host Perryville 7-4 in Susquehanna Division baseball action on Tuesday.
Chase Justice and Joseph Garrett (two RBIs) both registered two hits, Dillon McFarland tripled and drove in three runs and Tyler Ferguson doubled for the Eagles (8-0 overall, 6-0 division).
Joseph Garrett (five innings, two hits, seven strikeouts) and Bryan Bell (two innings, zero hits, five strikeouts) combined to secure the victory on the mound.

Ashley Meekins finished 3-3 with a home run, double, three runs scored and five RBIs, while Emily Phillips and Amber Keene (three hits, three runs) drove in two runs each for the Panthers (9-0 overall, 6-0 division), who received an RBI from Jordyn Reese.
Mara Little allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in the victory.
Taylor Abshagen (RBI, run) went 3-3 with a double and Anna Tidaback (2-3) added an RBI-triple and scored, while starting pitcher Rachel Jones went 2.3 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits with five walks and one strikeout for the Eagles (6-3, 3-3).
