For­mer North East pole vaulter Bertrand places 1st for WVU

West Vir­ginia Univer­sity se­nior Tori Bertrand, who grad­u­ated from North East High, se­cured a vic­tory in the pole vault dur­ing Satur­day’s Ma­son Spring Track and Field In­vi­ta­tional in Fairfax, Va.

Bertrand jumped her life­time best, climb­ing to a height of 3.91 me­ters, the third-best out­door score in team his­tory. She was one of three West Vir­ginia pole vaulters to place in the top five.

Youth Soccer Ce­cil Kick­ers suf­fer shutout

De­spite out­shoot­ing its op­po­nent by eight at­tempts, the Ce­cil Kick­ers fell to Pipe­line SC 3-0 over the week­end.

Shadai Givens recorded four saves for Ce­cil (1-1), which was tied 0-0 at half­time.

UCBAC Base­ball In­di­ans win big over War­riors

North East rode an 11-run third in­ning to up­end vis­it­ing Havre de Grace 13-1 in five in­nings in Susque­hanna Di­vi­sion base­ball ac­tion on Mon­day.

Cameron Blanken­ship (two dou­bles, four RBIs) and Eric Steele (three runs) both recorded three hits, while Chase Hol­lis­ter (two hits) and Colt Price both added two RBIs for the In­di­ans (6-3 over­all, 3-2 di­vi­sion), who led 2-0 af­ter two frames.

From the mound, Blanken­ship scat­tered three hits and struck out seven over four in­nings to pick up the win.

The War­riors fall to 1-6 over­all and 1-4 in the lower di­vi­sion. Ea­gles shut out Rams

Bo­hemia Manor de­feated vis­it­ing Edge­wood 7-0 in Susque­hanna Di­vi­sion base­ball ac­tion on Mon­day.

Josh Heath al­lowed two hits and struck out six in a com­plete-game ef­fort from the mound, while at the dish he record three hits for the Ea­gles, who re­ceived two hits from Bo Matherly, three RBIs from Gage Walk­lett and two RBIs from Tyler Fer­gu­son.

The Rams fall to 4-3 over­all and 2-3 in the lower di­vi­sion.

Elks dou­ble up Hawks

Elk­ton topped host North Har­ford 8-4 in Ch­e­sa­peake Di­vi­sion base­ball ac­tion on Mon­day.

Mike Moran threw a com­plete-game, giv­ing up two earned runs on six hits and Nathan Bakeoven fin­ished 2-4 with three RBIs at the plate for the Golden Elks (3-5 over­all, 2-4 di­vi­sion), who re­ceived a two-run sin­gle from An­thony Alexan­der and RBI sin­gles from Matt Coy and Troy Cher­waty.

Gar­rett Dick­son had two sin­gles and an RBI and Jeff Mer­gler (RBI) tripled and sin­gled for the Hawks (5-3, 3-3).

Pan­thers fall to Aberdeen

Per­ryville fell to host Aberdeen 2-0 in Susque­hanna Di­vi­sion base­ball ac­tion on Mon­day.

Sam Smith (triple) and Jack Smith (dou­ble) both went 2-3 with an RBI for the Ea­gles (43, 4-1).

Tigers suf­fer loss

Ris­ing Sun fell to vis­it­ing Pat­ter­son Mill 12-2 in six in­nings in Ch­e­sa­peake Di­vi­sion base­ball ac­tion on Mon­day.

Phil Lyons had two hits for the Tigers (2-6 over­all, 1-5 di­vi­sion).

Kyle Goudy went 5-5 with three dou­bles, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Jake Sheesley (RBI, run, two stolen bases) and Cooper Mattheu (three runs, RBI, walk) both went 3-3 for for the Huskies (5-2, 5-1).

UCBAC Soft­ball Ea­gles edge Mus­tangs

Bo­hemia Manor topped vis­it­ing C.M. Wright 4-3 in Ch­e­sa­peake Di­vi­sion soft­ball ac­tion on Mon­day.

Tay­lor Ab­sha­gen tossed a com­plete game, al­low­ing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and one walk with five strike­outs for the Ea­gles, who re­ceived two dou­bles and a run scored from Rachel Jones and two hits, in­clud­ing a dou­ble, and one RBI from Melinda Mor­gan.

Zoe Lock­wood (run), Kayla McNeal (RBI), Me­gan Horsey (RBI, run) and Jus­tine Borne­man (run) all added a hit in the vic­tory.

The Mus­tangs drop to 5-2 over­all and 3-2 in the up­per di­vi­sion.

In­di­ans sneak by War­riors

North East edged vis­it­ing Havre de Grace 3-2 in Susque­hanna Di­vi­sion soft­ball ac­tion on Mon­day.

The In­di­ans (5-2 over­all, 5-0 di­vi­sion) scored twice in the sixth in­ning be­fore walk­ing off in the sev­enth.

The War­riors fall to 3-5 over­all and 3-3 in the lower di­vi­sion.

Tues­day

UCBAC Base­ball Ea­gles top­ple Pan­thers

Bo­hemia Manor de­feated host Per­ryville 7-4 in Susque­hanna Di­vi­sion base­ball ac­tion on Tues­day.

Chase Jus­tice and Joseph Gar­rett (two RBIs) both reg­is­tered two hits, Dil­lon McFar­land tripled and drove in three runs and Tyler Fer­gu­son dou­bled for the Ea­gles (8-0 over­all, 6-0 di­vi­sion).

Joseph Gar­rett (five in­nings, two hits, seven strike­outs) and Bryan Bell (two in­nings, zero hits, five strike­outs) com­bined to secure the vic­tory on the mound.

Mara Lit­tle al­lowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks with four strike­outs in the vic­tory.

Tay­lor Ab­sha­gen (RBI, run) went 3-3 with a dou­ble and Anna Tid­aback (2-3) added an RBI-triple and scored, while start­ing pitcher Rachel Jones went 2.3 in­nings, al­low­ing seven runs on six hits with five walks and one strike­out for the Ea­gles (6-3, 3-3).
