Police investigating two home invasions
— Detectives are investigating two home invasion-style robberies that occurred at residences near North East within four days of each other last week, according to the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office.
In the most recent case, which occurred about 1 a.m. April 20 in the 200 block of Chesapeake Ridge Lane, one of the intruders pistolwhipped one of the victims, resulting in “nonlife-threatening” injuries that sent that 32-year-old man to an area hospital by ambulance, police reported.
Three men carrying handguns and concealing their faces with masks or bandanas committed the robberies, police said. Also a common theme, the robbers demanded to know where the safes were inside the targeted residences and then stole money and other property from them, police added.
“We’re still trying to determine if the two incidents are related,” said Lt. Michael Holmes, a CCSO spokesman, after acknowledging the similarities in the crimes, the short timeframe in which the two home inva-
sions occurred and the relatively close proximity of the two targeted residences.
The first incident occurred about 2:30 a.m. April 16, four days prior, in the unit block of Cedar Hill Circle, shortly after the three male victims — one 19 years old, the other two, 17 — had returned home from a party, police reported.
While on the second floor of the townhouse, the three victims heard approaching footsteps and then realized that their residence had been invaded, according to police.
“They saw three black males standing there, and they all had handguns,” Holmes said, adding, “One of the suspects struck the 19-year-old in the face and demanded money.”
A suspect also struck one of the teens in the face and the back of the head, possibly with an object, Holmes reported. The assaulted victims declined medical treatment, he noted.
The robbers fled after stealing money from a safe, which was in a closet, police said. They also stole a cell phone and a small amount of marijuana, police added.
The suspects are black men, according to police. One is described as being “skinny,” about 5-feet-5-inches tall, wearing a bandana, a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. The other has a medium build and was wearing dark clothes and a red bandana that partially covered his face. The third suspect was wearing a white bandana over most of his face. All three brandished handguns.
Four days later, three men in red masks committed the robbery at the Chesapeake Ridge Lane residence, after barging into that apartment while the three residents — a woman, 26, and two men, 32 — were present, police reported.
“They asked where the safe and money was, which was consistent with the other robbery. They made one of the male victims get on the floor and then struck him in the head with a gun,” Holmes said, adding that the suspects fled after stealing money from a safe.
Arriving CCSO deputies found the beaten man, who was “covered in blood,” at the entrance, according to Holmes. An ambulance transported the injured man to Christiana Hospital in Delaware, where he was treated and later discharged.
