Show­case on Main gives sea­son lineup

— For­mer Mil­burn Stone The­atre di­rec­tor Lee Lewis brought the au­di­ence to their feet Fri­day night at Show­case on Main, his new venue, with a pow­er­ful per­for­mance of “Bring Him Home” from “Les Mis­er­ables.”

The open­ing night cel­e­bra­tion for Elk­ton’s new­est arts venue for com­edy, mu­sic and theater fea­tured sev­eral per­for­mances in the din­ing room area of Mini­hane’s Ir­ish Pub. Among the per­form­ers were Christy Wy­att, who sang “Some­where Over the Rain­bow.” The Char­lotte Hash Band per­formed an array of pop­u­lar tunes.

“This is an amaz­ing op­por­tu­nity,” Lewis said as he un­veiled shows to be per­formed at Show­case on Main dur­ing its in­au­gu­ral sea­son and two ad­di­tional, larger shows to be per­formed at Elk­ton High School au­di­to­rium.

“It’s an am­bi­tious sched­ule, but I like to be busy,” Lewis said.

“The Wizard of Oz” will be his first pro­duc­tion at Elk­ton High School in mid- July.

The Show­case sea­son be­gins with “A Cou­pla White Chicks Sit­ting Around Talk­ing,” which runs May 27 and 28 and June 3 and 4.

“Fully Com­mit­ted,” a one- man show with 40 char­ac­ters, opens Aug. 5. “The Weir,” which takes place in a pub in Ire­land, starts Sept. 2. “Night­fall With Edgar Allen Poe” will be fea­tured Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29.

“Al­most Maine,” a ro­man­tic com­edy, will be fea­tured four week­end nights in Novem­ber start­ing Nov. 4, and will be fol­lowed by De­cem­ber pro­duc­tions of James Joyce’s “The Dead” and “The Eight Rein­deer Mono­logues” Dec. 16 and 17.

Lewis also is lin­ing up a monthly com­edy club start­ing June 11, and a lis­ten­ing room series of bands and singers, start­ing with celtic singer Char­lie Zahm at 7: 30 p. m. April 27.

Classes in act­ing and au­di­tion­ing will be con­ducted on Sun­days at Show­case on Main with de­tails to fol­low.

A “Hooray for Hol­ly­wood” per­for­mance will take place April 29 dur­ing the Ce­cil County Arts Coun­cil wine din­ner in the Show­case venue.
