Showcase on Main gives season lineup

— Former Milburn Stone Theatre director Lee Lewis brought the audience to their feet Friday night at Showcase on Main, his new venue, with a powerful performance of “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables.”
The opening night celebration for Elkton’s newest arts venue for comedy, music and theater featured several performances in the dining room area of Minihane’s Irish Pub. Among the performers were Christy Wyatt, who sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The Charlotte Hash Band performed an array of popular tunes.
“This is an amazing opportunity,” Lewis said as he unveiled shows to be performed at Showcase on Main during its inaugural season and two additional, larger shows to be performed at Elkton High School auditorium.
“It’s an ambitious schedule, but I like to be busy,” Lewis said.
“The Wizard of Oz” will be his first production at Elkton High School in mid- July.
The Showcase season begins with “A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking,” which runs May 27 and 28 and June 3 and 4.
“Fully Committed,” a one- man show with 40 characters, opens Aug. 5. “The Weir,” which takes place in a pub in Ireland, starts Sept. 2. “Nightfall With Edgar Allen Poe” will be featured Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29.
“Almost Maine,” a romantic comedy, will be featured four weekend nights in November starting Nov. 4, and will be followed by December productions of James Joyce’s “The Dead” and “The Eight Reindeer Monologues” Dec. 16 and 17.
Lewis also is lining up a monthly comedy club starting June 11, and a listening room series of bands and singers, starting with celtic singer Charlie Zahm at 7: 30 p. m. April 27.
Classes in acting and auditioning will be conducted on Sundays at Showcase on Main with details to follow.
A “Hooray for Hollywood” performance will take place April 29 during the Cecil County Arts Council wine dinner in the Showcase venue.
