— Mayor Dean Geracimos announced his re-election campaign Tuesday afternoon, crediting supporters with helping him make his final determination.

faces competition from a familiar opponent and current colleague: Councilman Frank Vari.

Vari ran against Geracimos in the mayor’s inaugural campaign in 2012, falling just 15 votes short of the town’s highest seat. Now he’s campaigning on the differing leadership styles of him and the mayor, and Geracimos said he’s hoping to display their differences for the public.

While Vari’s announcement clearly impacted Geracimos personally — the mayor responded to Vari’s criticisms in an uncharacteristic prepared remark during the town council’s April 25 meeting — he said his re-election campaign
