Orioles’ Machado named AL Player of the Month for April
— Manny Machado’s torrid start to the season resulted in a little hardware.
The Baltimore Orioles All-Star third baseman was awarded the American League Player of the Month award for April. He ended the month hitting .344 with 20 runs scored, 10 doubles, seven home runs and 16 RBI over 23 games. The two-time Gold Glove award winner has also made numerous jaw-dropping plays in the field.
Machado, 23, finished atop the league in hits (33), extrabase hits (17), total bases (64) and finished second in on-base-plus-slugging percentage (1.061), while helping guide Baltimore to the best record in the American League East as of April 30.
This is the first time in his career that Machado has received AL Player of the Month.
The recognition comes after a monster campaign in 2015 in which he registered 35 home runs, drove in 86 runs and stole 20 bases to finish as the AL’s only 20/20 player.
