Geraci­mos is the right choice

I am a pre­vi­ous Ch­e­sa­peake City Town Coun­cil mem­ber, hold­ing that po­si­tion for two years. In the past decade, I have also at­tended most coun­cil meet­ings and work­shops. I feel the need to cor­rect a state­ment quoted in your news­pa­per’s May 4 edi­tion re­gard­ing the tim­ing of the bud­get dis­cus­sions in town.

Both Mr. Frank Vari and Mr. Lew Collins in­sin­u­ated that the bud­get dis­cus­sions were de­layed by the cur­rent ad­min­is­tra­tion. A look back at the coun­cil meet­ing min­utes go­ing as far back as 2011 on the Ch­e­sa­peake City town web­site clearly il­lus­trate the fact, how­ever, that the bud­get dis­cus­sions, the pub­lic hear­ing and sub­se­quent vot­ing ses­sions on the bud­get al­ways hap­pen at ex­actly the same time each year — in May and June.

This year, Mr. Vari, as a new can­di­date for the po­si­tion of mayor, re­layed false in­for­ma­tion to some res­i­dents about taxes be­ing raised by a huge per­cent­age rate. Each year, the pos­si­bil­ity of a minute raise in taxes is dis­cussed by all coun­cil mem­bers. This
