Trio of Rising Sun tennis players headed to regionals
The Rising Sun girls’ doubles team and its top girls’ singles player placed at the Chesapeake Division Tennis Tournament at Bel Air High School on Monday, advancing to the Region VII Tournament next weekend.
The Tigers duo of Brianna Rohrer and Anna Chidester battled to a second-place finish in girls’ doubles, falling in the final 6-0, 6-0 to a pair of teammates from Fallston.
Rising Sun’s Tara Norona placed third overall in girls’ singles after she topped North Harford’s Allie Kettell in the consolation final.
UCBAC Softball Panthers remain perfect
Perryville upended visiting Edgewood 12-0 in five innings in non-divisional softball action on Monday to remain undefeated on the season.
The win came on Senior Day at Trego Field.
Nicole DiGiambattista (double) and Lydia Hill (triple) both drove in two runs, while Amber Keene (double, two runs), Carly White, Jordyn Reese (double), Mara Little (run), Sierra Johnson (run) and Brooke Reynolds (double, run) all added one RBI each for the Panthers (17-0).
Hill threw four innings, allowing one hit and three walks with seven strikeouts and Emily Phillips tossed a perfect inning with two strikeouts in the victory.
The Rams fall to 4-13 overall.
Indians shut out Tigers
North East defeated host Rising Sun 2-0 in divisional softball action on Monday.
Kasey Barrow (RBI double) and Molly Dill (run) both went 2-3, while Jess Choplinsky added an RBI double and Kaitlyn Stewart walked and scored for the Indians (15-2).
Morgan Sargent picked up the win from the circle, throwing three innings and striking out eight of the 11 batters she faced with no hits and one walk. Dill then followed by tossing four frames with four strikeouts, two hits and three walks.
Ally Bradford doubled and Rea- gan Connell singled for the Tigers (5-11). Connell also provided a complete-game effort from the circle, allowing seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Youth Soccer Kickers battle to tie
The Cecil Kickers battled PHWM to a 2-2 draw over the weekend.
Gabriella Pileggi and Saylor Bare both scored one unassisted goal each, while Shadai Givens recorded 13 saves in net for Cecil (1-1-2).
Bohemia Manor junior Natalie Lopez, pictured, topped Perryville’s Emily James 2-6, 6-1 and 6-2 at Aberdeen High School on Monday to capture her second consecutive Susquehanna Division girls’ singles crown.
