Newark Police searching for car involved in Elkton Road crash
Special from the Newark Post
Police are looking for the owner of a Volkswagen Beetle who swerved into another car’s lane Sunday, causing the driver to hit a utility pole on Elkton Road.
According to Newark Police spokesman Cpl. James Spadola, the crash occurred around 1: 49 p. m. Sunday as a Toyota Corolla and the Beetle were traveling on Elkton Road near Short Lane.
Spadola said the driver of the Beetle entered the Corolla’s lane, causing the Corolla to swer ve and hit a telephone pole. The two cars, however, did not make contact.
When police arrived, witnesses had already pulled the victim from the Corolla, which was totaled. He was taken to Christiana Hospital for injuries to his arms and legs and remains in the hospital in stable condition.
Spadola said the road was closed for more than seven hours while crews replaced the damaged utility pole.
The driver of the Beetle was not at the scene when police arrived; however, traffic cameras in the area captured a photo of the car. Spadola said officers are tr ying to identify the driver, who may or may not be charged pending an investigation.
