Girls’ lacrosse playoffs open with familiar foes
County teams will open the 2A-1A North Region Section II Girls’ Lacrosse Tournament against familiar opponents this afternoon.
Top-seeded Perryville hosts fourth-seeded Bohemia Manor at 5 p.m. and second-seed North East hosts Elkton, the three seed, at 4 p.m. Both games are the third meetings between county rivals.
The Panthers lost a single game in the regular sea- son and went unbeaten in Susquehanna play to win the lower-division championship behind the leadership of a trio of Salisbury commits—seniors Ally Remesch and Taylor Poore and junior Sydnie Bjork.
Perryville defeated the Eagles twice in the regular season, by scores of 18-3 and 18-2.
The Panthers aim to reach the regional final for a thirdstraight season, where they fell to Queen Anne’s each of the past two years. Fortunately, Queen Anne’s is no longer in the region. Unfortunately, Fallston is.
North East also won each of its two regular-season meetings with Elkton, but by much slimmer of margins. The Indians won by final scores of 16-13 and 14- 12.
The two finished with matching 4-3 records in the Susquehanna Division, but North East earned the higher seed and home-field advantage with one more overall win than the Golden Elks.
Rising Sun boys’ lax ready for playoffs after two-week break
The Rising Sun boys’ lacrosse team accomplished its goal of sweeping its county opponents.
Now, the experienced Tigers squad will see what new goals they can accomplish.
Rising Sun earned the top seed and a first-round bye in the 3A-2A North Region Section II Tournament with a 10-2 overall record. The Tigers came within a game of the Susquehanna Division title.
Their opponent, fourthseeded Eastern Technical, advanced with a 9-7 win over Aberdeen on Wednesday. Comparatively, Rising Sun dominated the Eagles, 17-0, on April 22.
Eastern Technical also fell to Harford Tech 13-5. The Cobras handed Rising Sun its lone lower-division loss, 10-8, on April 27.
The Harford Tech loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Tigers. They bounced back to handle Joppatowne 19-4 the following day, but have not played since. The postseason opener is Rising Sun’s first game in more than two weeks.
