Gunman robs store near Rising Sun
— A gunman remained on the loose Tuesday after robbing a convenience store near Rising Sun over the weekend, police reported.
The holdup occurred about 9 p.m. on Saturday at Pantry One in the 1800 block of Conowingo Road, according to Lt. Michael Holmes, a Cecil County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
Police said the gunman walked into the store and approached the checkout counter, where he brandished a handgun and demanded money, police said. After the employee surrendered an undisclosed sum of cash, police added, the bandit left the store and was last seen running north on nearby Horseshoe Road.
The suspect is described as being a white man about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds with “red blondish” hair and hazel eyes. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a black ski mask and a black bandana.
After responding to the armed robbery call, CCSO deputies were assisted at the crime scene and the surrounding area by an Aberdeen Police Department K-9 Unit, police reported.
Anyone with information that might help investigators identify the suspect is asked to call CCSO Det. Tyler Price at 410-392-2124.
As of Tuesday night, CCSO investigators hadn’t determined if there is a con-
nection between Saturday night’s armed robbery at the Pantry One near Rising Sun and similar holdups on Friday night at the Dollar General store on Conowingo Road in Conowingo and the High’s Dairy Store on Telegraph Road, north of Elkton, on May 6, according to Holmes.
Maryland State Police is investigating the previous two armed robberies. CCSO and MSP investigators have shared information about their similar armed robbery cases, he noted.
