Joseph Costa, age 92, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2016. Born in Baltimore, MD, on Febr uar y 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Vito and Rosa Costa.
Mr. Costa was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korea, having served from 1942 until 1962. He then worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chesapeake City, MD, retiring after more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Elkton, the Fleet Reserve Association, and VFW Post #8175, Elkton. Mr. Costa loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Elkton Senior Bowling League.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Caroline M. Costa; children, Vic Costa and wife, Sue, Rock Hall, MD, and Pam Cronauer and husband, Joe, Newark, DE; 4 grandchildren, Kelly Suppe and husband, Matt, Lindsay Edwards and husband, Jason, and Ryan and Jennifer Cronauer; 4 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Matthew and Michael Suppe, and Jack Edwards; and niece, Diana DeMond.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Costa was preceded in death by his siblings, Frank and Samuel Costa, and Mary Grace Saracino.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 19, at Immaculate Conception Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD. Interment with military honors will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.
