R. Mor­ris Gatewood

R. Mor­ris Gatewood, 89 of Ce­cil­ton, MD, passed away on May 19, 2016 at home.

Mr. Gatewood was born in Ear­leville, MD on Fe­bru­ary 22, 1927, son of the late John Ray­mond and Ada Ed­wards Gatewood. He was a life­time res­i­dent of Ce­cil County where he worked for the Brown’s on White Hall Farm and for 25 years with the Arm’s Fam­ily on Sas­safras Farm.

Along with his par­ents he was pre­ceded in death by 4 broth­ers, Ray­mond, Richard, Wal­lace and Phillip Gatewood and 2 sis­ters, Myr­tle and Char­ity Gatewood.

Mor­ris is sur­vived by his wife of 43 years, Edna Coates Gatewood; 2 daugh­ters, Marcet Gatewood of Mid­dle­town, DE and Joann Mon­tru­chio of Dover, DE; a niece and nephew who he raised, Chris­tine Brown and Calvin Duker; 5 sis­ters, Mary Gatewood of Ce­cil­ton, MD, May Berry of Townsend, DE, Mamie Car­roll of Ce­cil­ton, An­nie Hughes of Dept­ford, NJ, and Sara Burks of Elkton, MD; 2 grand­chil­dren, Makhi Swing­ing and Sa­van­nah Mon­tru­chio; and a host of nieces, neph­ews, cousins and friends.

A view­ing will be held on Fri­day, May 27 from 9 am to noon in the Galena Fu­neral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD, where fu­neral ser­vice will be­gin at noon. Burial in Union Bethel Ceme­tery, Ce­cil­ton.
